Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I have to provide my social security number when pawning an item?
Due to new Federal Military Lending laws, we cannot lend to ACTIVE MILITARY. We can only purchase. Unfortunately, we are required to take the Birthdate and Social Security Number of every person interested in pawning EVERY TIME a pawn is initiated. This ensures that you are NOT active military and/or your status has not changed (this information is not stored in our system). We can take it verbally or written. Lastly, the form will be shredded immediately or you can take it with you.
What type of warranty do you provide?
At Old World Jewely & Loan our policy states that everything sold is AS IS. We test every single item that we buy before we buy it to ensure that it works great. As is means that every sale is final, besides jewelry. If you decide that you want to return a piece of jewelry that you bought from us, it must be within 7 days and you must have your original receipt.
Are there any fees when pawning an item?
The only fees included in the process are your finance charges. This consists of the monthly interest + storage fee. You can always call to check up on your interest charges.
What kind of items do you take?
At Old World Jewelry & Loan, we are interesting in almost everything! We buy gold, silver, scrap gold, jewelry, electronics, watches, antiques, and anything old and interesting! You can also call to confirm if we would take your item if you’re unsure.
How old do you have to be to pawn something & do I need an I.D.?
In order to pawn an item, you have to be at least 18 years of age. When pawning an item, you MUST provide a valid state I.D. as well as whenever you come in with questions about your account or redemption.
Can someone other than myself pick up my pawn item?
Absolutely! In order for this to happen, the original owner of the item in pawn has to fill out a transfer section on the back of their original yellow pawn ticket along with their signature. The person picking up the item also has to fill out an “Identification other than Pledgor” section on the back of the pawn ticket.
If I have items at home, is there someone who can come look at them?
We have a licensed, professional auctioneer that handles occasional house visits to look at a larger set of items. Depending on the items themselves, he would be able to tell you whether or not a house visit is necessary.
Are jewelry repairs done at the shop or do they have to get sent out?
Jewelry repairs are sent out to our trusted goldsmith. Repairs are picked up and dropped off every week. Depending on the repair of your piece of jewelry, it can take UP TO week for it to come back. However, some repairs can be done in store depending on the situation. Watch repairs are also sent out but we are able to replace bands and batteries in store and be done within a few minutes!
